Our client is a top renewables business. It is also part of a much larger investment business. They are successful, friendly, smart and add value. The team is small and niche but their footprint is significant.

They now seek a finance manager to join their team. You will report to the CFO and will be managing about 2 senior accountants and 4 junior accountants. You are a CA(SA) and you have a proven track record of post articles experience of not less than 5 years and in Financial Services – it does not have to be in the renewable space but does have to be in FS. You will be responsible as the senior financial manager for the full financial function of all aspects of the business. You will report to the CFO.

JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be required to
  • Financial management:
    • You will be responsible for financial accounting and controls;
    • You will be required to ensure compliance with all shareholder, lender and government agreements;
    • You will be required to prepare budgets and forecasts, and financial reports for management, shareholders and lenders;
    • You will be responsible for the preparation of quarterly updates to the financial model and working with lenders in order to comply with senior loan covenants;
    • You will be responsible for audit liaison and preparation of annual financial statements;
    • You will be required to prepare information for board packs; investor updates, investment committees; project updates and other ad hoc financial reporting information;
    • You will be responsible for treasury and cash management including foreign exchange exposure monitoring;
    • You will be responsible for liaison with and management of service providers;
    • You will be responsible for advice on and review of finance-related matters (distributions, cash flows, finance issues, technical issues);
    • You will be required to work closely with the technical officers of the companies, to ensure that required financial information is supplied to the technical teams, and to obtain relevant project information that will impact financial status of the companies;
    • You will be required to work closely with the technical officers of the companies to ensure that the information required from contractors and advisors under the senior loan agreements is obtained in a timely manner and meets the necessary requirements;
    • You will be responsible for compliance with tax, legislative & statutory requirements;
    • You will be responsible for oversight and control of monthly payments to all suppliers and service providers;
    • You will be required to source and manage the following systems: GL system, reporting systems, economic development reporting systems, online banking systems and infrastructure;
    • You will be required to establish appropriate policies and procedures to ensure that the reporting systems are fit for purpose and are being utilised effectively;
    • You will be required to understand the Service Level Agreements (SLA) that have been negotiated; You will be required to monitor delivery per SLA requirements and then ensure payments in line with agreed costs and services;
  • Economic development:
    • You will be required to understand the economic development commitments made and obligations on the companies under the government agreements;
    • You will be required to work closely with contractors and suppliers of the companies to ensure that the information required in order to prepare the economic development reports is obtained in a timely manner and meets the necessary requirements;
    • You will be required to prepare economic development reports for management, shareholders and lenders;
    • You will be responsible for economic development audit liaison;
    • You will be responsible for the preparation of economic development forecasts and budgets in order to mitigate and minimise the consequences of non-compliance;
  • Tax:
    • You will be required to prepare and submit tax returns (general income tax, VAT and STC queries);
    • You will be responsible for monthly PAYE submissions, PAYE reconciliation (mid-year and annual);
    • You will be responsible for dealing with general income tax, VAT and STC queries);
  • Company secretarial and regulatory:
    • You will be required to interface with and management of company secretarial provider;
    • You will be required to ensure compliance with all Co Sec and defined regulatory requirements notwithstanding that certain functions will be outsourced per SLA;
  • You will be required to manage a small team – initially this will be two accountants;
  • You will be required to ensure correctness, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting;
  • You will be responsible for economic development reporting requirements are met in full;
  • You will be required to ensure the sound financial control of the companies during project development stage*, and thereafter of the ongoing operations# of the companies;
  • You will be required to provide assistance in business decision making;
  • You will be required to ensure that tax, legislative and statutory requirements are met;
  • You will be required to manage and lead a small team of accounting specialists to deliver key objectives;
  • You will be responsible for, during construction: engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract;
  • You will be responsible for once project companies are operational: operations and maintenance contract;
  • You will be responsible for more companies over time.

CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • You have strong people skills in being able to deal with a range of people: lenders, shareholders, staff from other divisions of this business and suppliers;
  • You have the ability to take on additional responsibilities;
  • You have the ability to incorporate additional new companies into existing processes and make decisions on additional staffing and systems that may be required;

  • You are proactive, analytical and have a keen eye for detail;
  • You have management and leadership skills.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You are a CA (SA) with clients at audit in financial services;
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of post-articles current, relevant experience;
  • You are a graduate with a minimum of 10 years current, relevant experience;
  • You have current, relevant experience in financial services, particularly with projects and new start-ups and / or renewable energy companies – this would be additionally valuable;
  • You have strong technical knowledge, including knowledge of accounting systems such as Great Plains GL;
  • You have commercial knowledge of alternative asset classes; This is a responsible and important role – you will be given the support wrt systems and staff to do a great job – you must be able to manage and take control of the full function and deliver to tight deadlines and standards.
