Our client is a listed Financial services business – one that is highly successful and visible. This role would have you working for a few divisions – in the investment space and the holding company. You will work with super bright, youthful, high energy driver drivers! This is a very unstructured environment with a huge premium on excellence in your work and person but not a boring hierarchy.
This is a role where you will be in a role that requires you to do the regulatory and statutory work but also think and work outside the box on ad hoc projects and proposals.

You will report to the COO.

JOB DESCRIPTION WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • You will be responsible for financial function of the entities delegated;
  • You will be required to support the entities through collection, processing, recording, reconciliation and reporting of financial data, verifying the validity, completeness and accuracy; you do have a CA(SA) to support you and you will have various people to draw on to in the various entities;
  • You will be required to maintain complete and proper records of revenue, expenditure, assets and liabilities and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information;
  • Financial accounting:
    • You will be responsible for cost effective allocation and use of company resources;
    • You will be responsible for the preparation of the annual financial statements;
    • You will be required to manage the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, analyses and information reports;
    • You will be required to contribute to the profitable management of the business by adhering to timelines to prevent penalties from incurring;
    • Business process management – operational:
    • Monthly:
      • You will be required to collate and capture all transactions and payments;
      • You will be responsible for record keeping of all transactions and payments for audit purposes;
      • You will be required to ensure that all payments are within the delegation of authority;
      • You will be required to prepare and file the monthly Vat return timeously to prevent any penalties and interest;
      • You will be required to prepare and manage monthly charge-outs between the group companies;
      • You will be required to ensure that intergroup loan accounts balance and are settled timeously;
      • You will be required to prepare monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, creditors accounts and debtors accounts;
      • You will be responsible for monthly preparation of monthly management accounts;
      • You will be responsible for liaising with underlying affiliate companies to obtain information to prepare monthly consolidated management accounts;
      • You will be required to track actual expenditure to budgeted amounts and obtain explanation for variances;
      • You will be required to prepare monthly forecast based on actual experience;
    • Quarterly:
      • You will be required to prepare financial section for inclusion in the quarterly board pack;
    • Annually:
      • You will be responsible for the handling of the year end audit which include the preparation of IFRS compliant annual financial statements;
      • You will be required to assist with the preparation of the IT 14 and IT14S for submission to SARS;
      • You will be required to prepare annual budget;
    • Tax:
      • You will be required to assist with the preparation of the IT 14 and IT14S for submission to SARS;
      • You will be required to assist with the reply of any tax queries received from SARS;
      • You will be required to ensure that Tax prepared and submit the required DWT returns;
      • You will be required to have fund level tax knowledge;
    • Administration:
      • You will be required to obtain copies of signed financial agreements for safekeeping;
      • You will be required to arrange for payment of the dividend;
      • You will be required to maintain asset register;
      • You will be required to interrogate affiliate financial statement and monthly management accounts;
    • Governance:
      • You will be required to develop and implement priorities to ensure to legislation and good corporate governance regarding the companies act and FSB related governance;
      • You will be required to comply with company structure and reporting lines;
      • You will be required to ensure that procedures and systems are in place to act as checks and balances on the information being received;
      • You will be required to ensure that the company demonstrated compliance with relevance legislation, regulations and ethical standards;
    • Company secretarial:
      • You will be required to prepare the necessary resolutions or liaise with the group Company Secretary to prepare resolutions;
      • You will be required to arrange for signing of resolutions and submit same;
      • You will be required to prepare or arrange for the preparation of the necessary board resolutions;
      • § ;
      • You will be required to prepare the required solvency and liquidity test and resolution for ordinary dividends to be paid;
      • You will be required to ensure that the required Dividend Withholding Tax (DWT) declaration has been obtained and are kept on file;
      • You will be required to assist with information for the preparation of CIPC annual returns;
      • You will be required to liaise with the holding company regarding any statutory changes, for example appointment and resignation of directors;
      • You will be responsible for amendments to memorandum of incorporation;
    • General
      • You will be required to advise and be proactive in identifying changes required as the business develop;
      • You will be required to maintain a level of knowledge by continuing training and keeping up to date ;
      • You will be required to identify and implement systems which can contribute to the operating efficiency of the group;
      • You will be required to strategically advise and assist the affiliates to implement a more efficient financial management process;
      • You will be responsible for fund level financial accounting and tax (DWT, etc) knowledge;

    • You will be required to assist in the support of resources within the financial department;

CORE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • You are a CA (SA) with clients at audit in financial services;
  • You understand business ethics and values;
  • You have an in-depth understanding of General Accepted Accounting (GAAP) requirements;
  • You have familiarity with financial accounting statements;
  • You understand Tax Legislation;
  • You have strong knowledge of the asset management environment and related accounting treatments;
  • You have knowledge of DCF Valuation models;
  • You have commercial and financial acumen;
  • You have strong knowledge of sharing;
  • You have minimum 5 – 7 years’ current, relevant experience in a respected financial services institution and some work in listed entities – at audit would suffice;
  • You have strong knowledge of MS applications;
  • You have advanced MS Excel skills;

This is not a boring accounting role – this role will challenge you given the environment and the various entities that you are involved with and yes, you will work on the statutory work but you will also need to be smart and capable enough to look at projects and processes and move between functions and responsibilities.
